Each quarter since 2005, The Senior’s Choice has honored one of our members’ caregivers with our distinguished “Caregiver of the Season” award, recognizing their dedication, passion, compassion, and outstanding achievement. The remarkable individual listed below is the kind of person who will be caring for your loved one when you hire a member of The Senior’s Choice to provide in-home care.
Kristina is currently working as a companion aid for a woman who cannot drive due to macular degeneration and who also suffers from mild cognitive impairment. The family wanted to bring in someone who could keep their mother active and engaged, both inside and outside the home.
Kristina has taken the companion aid role to an entirely new level. She has accompanied the client on doctor appointments and even to the emergency room. She has served as the client’s advocate, making sure she received the proper care and attention, and then was able to communicate the physician’s findings and recommendations back to the family, which they have found to be extremely helpful. The client still likes to go to the YMCA, so Kristina takes her and “works out” with her a couple of days a week. This benefits the client’s physical and social health as well. In the home, the client was having trouble remembering how much time to microwave her coffee and other foods, so Kristina put labels on the microwave to make it easier. The client also struggled with using the thermostat in her home, so again Kristina devised a simple to use method for the client to know which buttons to press.
Next month, the client is going to her high school reunion some distance away, so the family asked Kristina to take her down there and then bring her home a couple of days later. The client is extremely excited to show Kristina her hometown and to introduce her to her friends and relatives. Kristina is calling it their “Thelma and Louise” trip.
We are delighted to have Kristina recognized for her excellence.
