Each quarter since 2005, The Senior’s Choice has honored one of our members’ caregivers with our distinguished “Caregiver of the Season” award, recognizing their dedication, passion, compassion, and outstanding achievement. The remarkable individual listed below is the kind of person who will be caring for your loved one when you hire a member of The Senior’s Choice to provide in-home care.

Vickie was one of the first caregivers we hired and has played an integral part in the early success of Comforting Arms. She spent most of her career in the corporate world but she felt a calling to be a caregiver after she experienced taking care of her parents and her husband’s parents.

Vickie has been our go-to person not only as a caregiver but also to help with our new hires. For one of our new caregiver training sessions, we needed someone to walk through some basic caregiving techniques and Vickie stepped up and did a fantastic job. She was so good that she now does that segment of all of our new caregiver trainings. Although she is new to this profession, Vickie has shown great insight and has wonderful people skills. She has made several recommendations for our care plan and training which we have implemented. Vickie has also made herself available on short notice to work with clients and filled in for caregivers who could not make their shift.

Vickie is assigned permanently to one client and received the following testimonial from the client’s daughter:

“Vickie is the consummate caregiver. I think she truly has a calling for taking care of others. She genuinely likes my father and it makes me feel so good to have someone with him that has more than a ‘job’ connection to him. Vickie admitted early on that she likes to have something to do, so she is never satisfied to complete ‘just’ the tasks outlined in the care plan although those ‘tasks’ are many. She always says, “My job is to make your life easier.” And she has. I enjoy my home time with Dad much more because of Vickie. Vickie has an affinity for interacting with people because my Dad definitely displays a more genuine enjoyment in his time with Vickie than he does with most other people, including family members. I have to say, I do too.”

I think the above testimonial sums it all up. Vickie exemplifies the core values of Comforting Arms:

– Empathy

– Motivation

– Bridge to the future

– Reassuance

– Assistance

– Compassionate Care

– Education
