Halloween Activities for People With Dementia

By Stephanie Strohl

When people living with dementia become involved in Halloween activities, it can be both fun and rewarding. Here are a few ideas for Halloween activities that people with dementia can enjoy:

Cooking, Sampling and Smelling: Making Halloween cookies can involve rolling the dough, icing the cookies and eating them. Smells of cookies, pumpkins and cider can bring back memories of the holiday as well.

Costume Day: Dressing up in costumes is a great way for people living with dementia to express themselves and can also be a fun way to have a mini-Halloween celebration. Fun music can always liven up the mood and bring back memories.

Halloween Games: Playing Halloween-themed games is a great way to get people with dementia involved in the festivities. Try simple games, such as memory matching, Halloween bingo, or a pumpkin scavenger hunt.

Crafts & Coloring:
Creating artwork or coloring Halloween-themed coloring pages are great for people with dementia. Include stickers, glue, glitter, and other craft materials to make the activity more enjoyable.

These are just a few ideas for Halloween activities that people with dementia can enjoy. Get creative and have some spooky fun!
